Recently Fox News had a report about Biden Economics featuring steak and butter, along with the high cost of mortgages. It sounded like a report of a nation where there is runaway inflation and Turkey came to mind. The inflation rate of the items mentioned was 72 percent. I also learned during these last weeks that car insurance increases make up one-half of one percent of our current inflation rate. Home owners insurance is impacting, but a call to my insurance agent was needed for the rise of my own personal car insurance and I was told that there were heavy losses by insurance companies and he had checked out the prices on other well known lower cost insurance companies and the experience was the same.
Let’s get to steak and butter. I went back to the beginning or genesis which was 2001 when Biden took office. I have no special site to search that is committed to backing Biden instead of Fox. This is what I learned.
By December 11, 2021 butter was up 40 percent.
Declining cow herds,
labor shortages and
higher packaging material costs
ongoing labor and freight shortages will continue to limit the butter supply in 2022
There were other record-setting increases for commodities such as wheat and coffee experiencing
over the past year amid high demand
poor weather and supply chain disruptions which manufacturers have largely chosen to pass down to the consumer
Now we can get to steak where I read an article about food critic Andrew Zimmern and a well-known hamburger restaurant. There was an price increase of 25 percent early on.
Organizations like the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) put out the word that Americans may see record high beef prices this year due to the lowest cattle inventory in over 70 years.
In 2017 there were 95 million cattle
In January 2024 there were just 87.2 million cattle and calves
The reasons
farmers selling off cattle due to severe drought conditions — requiring farmers to hold less inventory to make sure the rest can be fed
and the rising cost of supplies to feed and support such cattle herds
Zimmern points to examples of the severe weather impact
with the wildfires raging across the Texas panhandle
An estimated 7,000 cattle have died thus far
putting the squeeze on local ranchers and a larger squeeze for the industry
And there was mention of rising labor costs due to the rise of the minimum wage (as high as $20 and which has been going on for years. Those same wages were going up under Trumponomics and Trump took credit for higher wages during his term.
It is just being reported that Tyson Foods hopes to hire 52,000 migrants because of labor shortages and migrant labor could easily mean “cheap labor.” I just got that from Fox News. This has been the standard for our nation when conservative economist Milton Friedman told businessmen that there is nothing wrong with “illegal” immigration as long as you do not have to pay out things like social security and other beneficial things to the immigrants. And Fox News will act as though it’s the left, the communists and socialists, liberals that are responsible for all the migrants who have crossed our border over the decades. From what I observed over 20 years ago, labor did not particularly like cheap labor in our nation, but eventually supported this humanitarian effort out of brotherhood. I support the migrants because I have proof that the law that made it “illegal” to cross the border was antisemitic. It’s “Founding Father” referred to the recent wave of Jewish immigrants as “filthy, un-American, and often dangerous in their habits.” And Jews paid for that law before and during The Holocaust with their lives.
I want the Jewish people to know that to me going to Fox News is just slightly better than going to La Libre Parole which was extremely antisemitic in France in the 1890s. Even in researching Fox News about the Enid, Oklahoma current controversy of white supremacy and the election of one of Enid’s own to the city commissioner’s office, I found Fox News spending far too much of its space giving the individual in question a rebuttal based on his “conservative” values and his faith in the electorate of Enid. The Nazis were doing the same thing in the 1920s and 1930s.
I just learned that there were Polish people under German influence that wore Hitler-like mustaches in admiration of Hitler. They shaved off those mustaches as Allied forces entered their lands for fear of retaliation.
I, also, learned yesterday that business rents on rising on Long Island right now even though we hear of losses (just like in New York City) of population to other states. There are large vacancies of stores everywhere. Again, this seems to be a failure of the “free market” economy. Rents are supposed to come down, but there could also be local market conditions that jack up the cost of renting.
And if things were not bad enough, it has been reported right now that a Catholic priest who recently took over the parish in New York has increased the rent for AA or Alcoholics Anonymous from $80 a month to $800. And there were other increases and notices of termination since St. Augustine in Park Slope doesn’t have the funds needed to provide long standing Catholic charitable services. The subtitle of the article I read was about ending Creole and Spanish services and programs for the needy.
And there lawsuits, mostly resulting from scandals against the church, was cited as a reason and that is not Bidenomics.
