Conversation with Arab-American News in Dearborn, Michigan

I noticed an article about Congresswoman Tlaib and agreed with her. Why? She wouldn’t talk to Fox News. I decided to do more searching.

I was searching for Detroit news media and saw Detroit Free Press and a little more. I like to find news media that I can talk to. Forget about the New York Times and the New York Daily News, for example, and probably hundreds of others. I used to talk to the editor of the New York Daily News. I decided to search for Arab-American news media, and it led me to the telephone of the publisher who gets calls from the staff of President Joe Biden. I called and he answered. Among other things, I sent him a copy of the cover page of my book “The Sacred Oath” and told him how and when I developed that project.

It was a very pleasant conversation and ending the discussion of the book and idea to produce a major motion picture, I told him that I wanted Omar Shariff to star in the movie. I failed and Omar Shariff went on to gamble his fortune for many years.

The publisher told me how much he and his community love America and he pointed to his own American Dream story about coming here with little money from Lebanon. He rejected the call for “Death to America.” That looks like half the coin that we now see in the media. The other half is “Death to Israel.” That last part is antisemitic since Israel has a right to exist. We did not get into a conversation about Gaza.

I told him straight out about things you have read in my work such as the United States being complicit in The Holocaust and he agreed citing the history of Jews in Eastern Europe in those days. There was no mention of Nazi Germany at all, except the general description of The Holocaust. He was upset about various aspects of the United States leading to what we can call misinformation supporting Gaza over Israel, I guess, and he mentioned three things. Hollywood was one of them and I am reasonably certain that the media was another one.

We disagreed on one specific thing. He did not see any violence taking place over the protests. I know history and based on that history I said there will be violence. That night, as I looked at news on my phone, the story of the cancellation of the valedictorian speech at the University of Southern California came up and what was the reason? Her known speech that could cause violence at the graduation ceremony where 65,000 people will be in attendance. No violence, but the authorities since see great risk and shut her down.  There was even a shooting at an Eid event in West Philadelphia the other day.

The student is upset, CAIR (the huge Muslim organization is upset, and the community across our nation and around the world will be upset. People are being quoted in the Muslim community and I decided to do one more outreach if you can guess what it is. Since COVID-19 I have written about something that I learned and that is the Quran says to save one life is like saving all of humanity.

There was one key thing on mind as there has been for a long, long time.

Congresswoman Omar’s Mistake: The Damage Is Done

March 10, 2019

I called the office of Congresswoman Omar and her staff searched for my article on the Holocaust Chronicles and found it to show to her.  That article details that people of color, but particularly African-Americans and other Black people probably would have been next in line to be exterminated.  Even one of my readers was quick to point that out to me.  Black History Month just ended and Jews share too much in common for people to divide the importance of the commonality of our history.  This should be shared of course with Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and with students on campus across America.

I will add more from that article which appeared in Jewish Business News in 2019. That was more than five years ago and you can see that I wanted to reach college students across our nation.

And like I said earlier, here is more.

Ever since I watched the movie Exodus, I knew that Palestinians were divided during the war and I later learned about the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem who wanted to destroy all Jews.  I also noticed severe prejudice against the Palestinian people long before most Jews had a clue about what was going on.  From my own viewpoint, nobody should talk about the Nakba and the attack on Deir Yassin without mentioning the massacre of Hebron in 1929.  Nobody!  Events need equal time. And then there is this.

And back in 2024, do you think that Congresswoman Omar listened to me? You can read today on the internet that 75 years after Deir Yassin (the Nakba) that the massacre matters.

You can see that 95 years after the Hebron Massacre that it matters. You can hear Alan Dershowitz talk about the role of the same Grand Mufti who was mentioned in 2019 in my article. But Dershowitz leaves out the horrific massacre of innocent Jews and probably because he might either not know or he does not understand that even non-Zionists were being killed.

Let’s briefly go back to Hebron in 1929.  The Orthodox community had sixty-four dead, including women and children.  Overall 133 Jews and 116 Arabs were killed (the latter mostly by British police).  Jews went from the Russian Pogrom to a slaughter that was not organized by the authorities.  Hundreds of Jews were given shelter by Arabs and survived because of their compassion.  That is the best part of the lesson of this history.

Finally we can give some thought here to the community that Congresswoman Ilhan Omar serves in Minnesota.  No she doesn’t have to go to Israel (yet) and visit the Holocaust Museum.  She can read the Holocaust Chronicles at home and not use her trip as a photo opportunity to prove a point.  She has work to do in her district.

And what you have read dear reader should have been shared with Dearborn, Michigan residents. And it could still be shared with Dearborn residents, dear me.

I just remembered to share something. Exodus. Those lyrics were composed by Pat Boone. I was close to Pat Boone at a Christian event in Washington. D.C. a long time ago. I didn’t speak to him about the G.E.D. or anything else. I chose to speak to others. Exodus was a great hit and so was the music. Winner song of the year Grammy 1961.
