The United States is being dragged on the road that Nazi Germany and Nazi occupied France went through. This is the moment to stop madness. And our nation’s people can stop the madness before it is too late. And it’s been “too late” for quite some time.
Neighbors and passersby saw just how the arrest of migrants took place. What was amazing about all the arrests by police is that one police officer resigned after watching for two days. The police acted like Gestapo in making arrests and even contemplating about future plans.
The cooperation of the police was intense. And it has been my fear that police cooperation, right now, under Trump will be intense as well. The police are divided, and it is impossible to know percentages for and against.
There is a lot to explain that the American public needs to know, things that were not taught in school. This was a crime against humanity that should never have taken place against others. Foreign Jews were arrested in France and naturalized Jews were expecting the same, Fear of the Nazis found common ground among Frenchman whose hatred of Jews had been there for hundreds of years.
Polish, Russian, Austrian, German, Czechoslovakia, Estonia, Lithuania, Lativa, the territory of Danzig, the Saar region, Romanian Jews have been replaced as targets by Colombian, Mexican, Venezuelan, Haitian, Dominican,
And what as the press saying about the Jews of Paris. Eighty percent of the attempted murders in the Paris region were caused by Jews, largely foreign born. “Rid us of the Jews,” appeared in the Gringoire by Phillipe Henriot, who later became minister of information. So intimately linked were these events of 1942 linked with current events. Mass deportation of Jews=mass deportation of immigrants in America.
The same Henriot in the Gringoire referred to this “Do they want us to start another Dreyfus affair? Not satisfied with invading our hotels, our cities, and our countryside, do they want to invade our conversations.”
And in reference to Jews being forced to wear the “yellow star” he wrote “That measure, so straightforward, which should delight our people, who are so proud of their race.”
Thaink of Trump calling the desire of people to immigrate to our nation an invasion.
This story started soon after the Nazis took over, but the rounding up of Jews in the Vel D’Hiv had just taken place. A book that I should have started weeks ago, I decided to pick up and put down for a week or so the book on Reconstruction. Lazare Pytkowicz, a fourteen-year-old, was able to slip away to freedom. This decision was not an easy one since this mother was against it .This young Pytkowitz would join the French resistance. Have I not already expressed the need for resistance?
So, what was in the Vel D’Hiv for a week before mass deportations took place.
Suicides, death, illness, people crying, no food and drink, unrations and defecations where people sat since those facilities were clogged. Humiliation of humanity and police cooperation. And the suicides had begun long before the roundup, hundreds of them. This was the new order, being imposed on France by the Germans. So, what German holds power in the USA? And among that mass of defecations, women even gave birth.
And, of course, French Jews were being arrested at that time. And it wasn’t just Paris where this was taking place, since Limoges, Lyons, Clermont-Ferrand, Nice, Montpellier, Marseilles, and Toulouse were involved and were expected to provide, 3,220 of the 14,000 Jews to be rounded up. That was Vichy, France which was unoccupied and cooperation with the Nazis was total.
Some people actually cared or seemed to care. Socialists could shrug their shoulders, The arrest of children was particularly annoying.
By July 20, 1942, these were the arrest tallies
Men 3,118
Women 5,919
Children 4,115
Total 13,152
And the Paris police felt obliged to turn over 22,000 “stateless” Jews to the Germans for deportation.

Trump and Hitler! America and Austria!

In Austria 1938, the effort to gain a visa was full of the most horrendous, time consuming tiers of things that had to be done. There was fraud involved and often Jews who had gone through many of the procedures had to begin all over. The level of desperation was heightened by Hitler’s procedures. There was a certificate of fiscal harmlessness, then payments, then a visit to obtain a certificate of domicile, then a visit to the district commissioner’s department in the town hall, then a visit to the Accountancy Department of the central tax office and the district tax office, then to step two if the person had the money to pay for the emigration tax, then a visit to a place where the Jew’s assets were released and a certificate of good conduct was issued, that’s when Jews could be forced to start all over as they could be assigned by the Nazis to clean up things and lose their turn, then to stage three where to obtain a passport which involved being interrogated at a police station, and then on to two other offices that Jews dreaded to go to. And finally, Jews had to swear that they were never going to return to Austria. And Trump is for extreme vetting. Where did he learn it from?
ICE can be stopped by the American people. I shared this with Catholic bishops recently and the church must do more.
Bulgaria’s Jews Saved from Deportation

Among the major sources of help at that moment in history was the head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Stefan (he was ready to give his life on the railroad tracks to stop the deportations).
And what we witness right now by bishops including Cardinal Dolan of New York, a good friend of Donald Trump, is this. The Cardinal recently came out to speak about JD Vance but only in the context of defending the source of funds to operate Catholic Charities. He has made no serious attempt to weaponize the Catholic Church against ICE. Perhaps, a trip by the cardinal to Grand Central Station would be in order. They have tracks there you know.
The cardinal could invite Rabbi Boteach and various rabbis and evangelicals to participate. The American people should tell ICE to calm down, particularly since Trump has labeled millions of migrants as criminals. Our nation needs a great lesson. Let’s put a tariff on Trump.
The foreword of the book, I wrote about a month ago before reading the book. “How can we fail to make the connection to Donald Trump’s policy towards Mexican and Central American refugees? The clown of the White House is not a laughing matter: we do not forget that our parents’ generation was replete with jokes about another clown who shouted obscenities at Munich and Nurenberg, before they realized that a bloody monster was hiding behind this pathetic character….” Adolph Hitler!
Three Suicides: The Sessions-Trump Team to Blame for One

October 22, 1942 two Jews commit suicide just about a month after their children had been deported from the Lodz Ghetto in Poland. There should be zero tolerance for Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his bad policies. The oppression must stop!
All have made the news in the last week. Muñoz found out in Texas that his family would be separated as his child was ripped from his hands forcefully. Muñoz soon was found in a cell an item of twisted clothing around his neck in a pool of blood. This incident alone demands a total change in policy and this is not the only example of suicide. Muñoz was from Honduras, one of the countries that supported Trump’s embassy move to Jerusalem and its president, so far, is silent on this suicide.
The Catholic Church needs real leadership and not friendship with Donald Trump. The church has contributed to the Trump dictatorship.
Trump wants to open up Guantanamo to a deportation center. Not quite Hitler! But Trump does deserve the Hitler Humanitarian Award for copying much of Hitler since Stephen Miller designed his border program.
It’s time for the Catholic Church to tell the story of Joseph and how allowed his brothers to enter into Egypt in their hour of need. And for Jews to say I wish our families had fled to America and crossed the Mexican border (millions of them to save lives) and cast off this absurd notion that people in danger must wait at the end of the line to come in legally.
There was a Jewish grapevine at the time called Radio rue des Rosiers which to me indicates its location in LeMarais. Its talk included being able to get in the free zone which would take a smuggler who had to be paid.
Adolph Eichmann had received a message from SS Dannecker weeks before the Vel D’Hiv detailing just how foreign Jews would be rounded up and then the process would move on to naturalized Jews after 1919 or 1927. Let’s keep in mind that over 75,000 were eventually processed and only 2,500 survived.
