I had this vision of a man who was drunk and started to sing. He attended a party in a jail, but the jail was not a jail.
He was singing a song made famous by Elvis, whose last name is not needed. As people know well, the lyrics were that the warden threw a party in the county jail and the place started to rock.
It turned out that the location was on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D. C. The address 1600. The warden, it turned out, was newly elected president of the United States. Now that is cleared up. So, it wasn’t the county jail that the drunk was singing out and maybe he was just drunk with power. I am relieved about that but now follow this.
It was the country jail, and it was occupied by convicted felons who were just released from jail by the president’s pardon. Now many of those convicted felons are expressing “retribution” and this reminds me of Hitler in Nazi Germany and how Stalin used his loyal men to kill his enemies or so-called enemies in the Soviet Union. The White House has been turned into the country jail.
Donald J. Trump, a convicted felon, was allowed by the Supreme Court to become president again and his pardoning of those felons has placed lots of people in danger as they seek “retribution.” Yes, the American people voted for this situation and Republicans are upset. They have denounced Trump, but they haven’t taken any action. That’s what Republicans do when they disagree with things that Trump has said and done.
And that is now always on my mind. Always on my mind.
And it also reminds me of a period in American history under Andrew Johnson who admired Andrew Jackson failed abolitionists and the freedmen who were emancipated. He was a Democrat, but the history of that period reveals that lots of Republicans went along with limiting the freedom of the slaves to Emancipation and little or no more. Trump’s paramilitary is now on the loose and Americans are no longer free. Justice has not been served since their release from prison. The opposite is true. Elvis was born in Mississippi. The South, long before the Election of 1876 that resulted in the Compromise that handed the South back to men who would institute Jim Crow, was moving toward replacing slavery with laws and contracts that would enslave the freedmen.
The Supreme Court played a major role in that, too. It took the Supreme Court almost a hundred years to recognize the wrong that it had done since the Dred Scott decision. A great stain has been created by the Supreme Court now since immunity=criminality. We do have a Constitutional Crisis on our hands and Trump should not be granted permission to diminish our Constitution at all. He must leave office immediately. And all the convicted felons where they all belong? They belong with the warden in the county jail.
Let’s look at the period from 1863-1867 .
General Jacob Cox, Republican candidate for governor of Ohio, proposed the colonization of Blacks in “a separate territory.” And some Republicans were Democratic-Republicans or new members of the Republican Party that wanted Blacks to be emancipated only with no other rights. The Radical Republicans held firm about granting all rights to Black people against great odds. Even when Republicans were elected as governors, Black suffrage was voted down (in Minnesota by 2,600 votes and in Connecticut by 6,000 votes). So, it wasn’t just the Democrats in the South that brought on the disaster for African Americans. By 1868 the Democrats were emboldened, and it weakened the chances of providing Blacks with the rights that whites had.
Now we can turn to the justices of the Supreme Court and find out if their hands are tied. Are they speaking out about what is taking place. Retribution instead of justice? Our nation has to act immediately against this irrational moment in America.
