After the telephone conference call I had the pleasure of talking to Mark Cohen who told me that 35 of his students have already listened to the conference call. Let us all strive to share the information with youth who can almost assure us that their friends will find out and listen as well over the telephone.
Artist Mark Cohen has a collection of Black Lives Matter artwork including one of the Emanuel African Methodist Church in Charleston. Here you can study his work called The Charleston Nine. At the end of his paintings are the photographs of Red Morgan who has devoted 40 years of his life to photographing African-Americans. Red Morgan has many photographs of church life and even one of Busta Rhymes.

Mark Cohen is also a Holocaust artist. Did you know that there were African Americans and other people of color held in concentration camps of the Nazis. Yes there were! And today lots of Jewish organizations are supportive of Black Lives Matter. Not this Black Lives Matter page. I'm talking about the movement for justice. We fight for justice together and more and more people are joining up to change this nation.
Also one of the worst Nazis who killed Jews for sport and who was seen in the Steven Spielberg movie Schindler's List had a daughter with an African man and gave that baby up for adoption. That child of a mixed relationship grew up and wrote a book called "My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me." There are lots of things to learn that you will not find out in communities or even online so easily.
Click this Legacy of Remembrance link to open up Mark's file with his paintings.
Helpful information for downloading. If you see colored circles just look at the top right side in the middle of the printer and the three dots. That is the download button. Once you do that you can open the file and see his paintings. The last thing to do after it has downloaded and you can see the "open" message is click the nearby three dots and click open.
Please spread the word in your community that people can have an art exhibit of Black Lives Matter and the Holocaust. The links can be sent out to members of all organizations and churches as well. Thanks!
Chris Mancini's Crime Tour Museum is in Florida and you can visit his FACEBOOK Crime Tour Museum to get acquainted. Dr. King's photo is posted there with the accompanying article about Dr. King and his days in Florida.

This movie treatment is full of solutions for communities, even communities outside the United States. Also Lebron James is featured in this movie treatment to provide help to our nation that he has provided to Akron, Ohio. Mark Zuckerberg of FACEBOOK makes an appearance in the treatment.
CERVANTES
People are outside City Hall protesting and asking for the mayor to resign.
MIKE CERVANTES (pronounced Cer-van-tees) is watching George Carlin on You Tube. George Carlin is telling an audience that the government you get is the best government that you are going to get. So stop hoping for something better. He also says that the “public sucks.”
The mayor of Chicago resigns (due to harassment of two Black women).
MIKE CERVANTES has lost his position as a GED teacher because the principal refused to give him tenure and a tenured teacher has transferred into the program and replaced him. He feels that he lost his job due to anti-unionism.
MIKE CERVANTES is now working as a substitute, where he complains about the low pay, less money than he made as full-time GED teacher.
MIKE CERVANTES is feeling down about the new job and is talking to his girlfriend MELISSA SANCHEZ. He says that he cannot make the best of this bad situation. MELISSA SANCHEZ is an artist who applies her knowledge to technology, designing websites among other things. MELISSA SANCHEZ is working for a political consultant whose client is running for mayor. She also prefers to call Mike Miguel, the Spanish equivalent of Mike. She says to him Miguel you have to get over this and I’ll do my best to help.
MIKE CERVANTES is playing golf with JOE MURPHY who is irritating him. MIKE is losing his concentration and his lead in the match. They are now even after seventeen holes. JOE MURPHY makes the green twenty-five feet away and the MIKE CERVANTES’ ball is just a foot inside of his friend’s ball. JOE MURPHY misses the longer putt by inches and taps in for a par. MIKE CERVANTES settles down, rubbing his hands against the putter. He looks at the hole and putts, sinking the putt as he wins the match.
MIKE CERVANTES talks to MELISSA about the golf match. He tells her that he has good news and bad news. She says tell me the good news first. He says I won the match. And the bad news MELISSA SANCHEZ asks. MIKE CERVANTES says I normally win by seven strokes and my performance is proof that there is something powerfully wrong going on inside me and I don’t like it.
MELISSA SANCHEZ tells MIKE that we will be with friends. She is taking Mike to the mayoral candidates’ office for a meeting. MELISSA SANCHEZ says these are people that will help you. So just help them with your ideas and things will work out.
At the campaign office of the mayoral candidate, the MIKE CERVANTES is talking to an aide about bringing the GED into the campaign in order to get more votes in a tight electoral race. GED, he says, is education and it’s a job creator for people, lots of people who are voting age.
The mayoral candidates’ volunteers are walking into communities telling the adults that they are going to provide help to the community with a new GED initiative to get many of them out of poverty and into jobs. And there will be other educational initiatives that no other mayor will attempt, including new community policing.
The election results are in and the mayoral candidate has squeaked in. But there will be a recount.
MIKE CERVANTES is offered a job for much more money by the mayor. His title will be chief education strategist-community advisor.
MAYOR RILEY is holding a meeting with his staff. MAYOR RILEY says please read the most recent data. JAMAL says that the Dow Jones went down yesterday one hundred points. MAYOR RILEY tells Mike that in this administration we read the ups and downs of the Dow Jones, but we pay attention to the people.
MIKE CERVANTES is in an auditorium with members of the mayor’s staff and three hundred adults from a tough community. They start to give them the GED practice test.
MIKE CERVANTES has an important meeting with the schools CEO where he discusses implementing a high school equivalency practice test for high school students with the parents and guidance counselors working together. He emphasizes that the parents have to be more involved with their children, even if their children choose to leave school.
MIKE CERVANTES is observing the principal of a school talking to the parents about the state tests that their children will be taking. MIKE CERVANTES is called up and presents a lesson about critical thinking from a high school equivalency book that is an integral part of the test that the children have to take. This is the key to helping more parents help their children pass the state tests.
MIKE CERVANTES attends a meeting in a charter school at the urging of the deputy mayor. MIKE CERVANTES tells the parents that when the charter school can take over an entire school and do well that is really something great. Remember Marva Collins started a school that eventually closed and nobody talks about that now, even though a movie was made about her. He adds that there are parent leaders working in district schools that get about the same results in those neighborhood schools that charter schools get and they are both essentially doing the very same thing. We have to help everyone and not a select few.
MIKE CERVANTES speaks to 100 students from the city and state universities students that he has organized to teach school equivalency to adults in the public schools. He tells them all about what they will do.
There is a meeting taking place of staff at City Hall. JAMAL says that the Dow Jones went down three hundred points. MAYOR RILEY says that we have the results of the new GED community mobilization MIKE CERVANTES takes out papers and makes his presentation. We have results from the state GED testing for the three zip codes from which the testing candidates come from. He tells the staff that using last years’ results against current performance, we had fifty percent of last years’ annual performance of diplomas granted in only forty-five days. At the current rate of success, we can achieve the success rates of some of the best GED states in the nation, including Wyoming, Utah, Oregon, and Alaska. The mayor says that he is very happy. Let’s continue the project and expand it immediately to twelve more zip codes in the city in areas where there is great need.
MIKE CERVANTES is playing golf with JOE MURPHY. He is up nine strokes after nine holes. He gets a call to get over to a meeting and he tells JOE MURPHY that he has to leave. JOE MURPHY says that he doesn’t want to play alone and leaves with Mike. MIKE CERVANTES drives away to go meet the mayor.
MAYOR RILEY calls MIKE CERVANTES into his office to talk about the gangs and asks what could be done about them education-wise. MIKE CERVANTES tells the mayor that this whole universal pre-kindergarten effort will not work well during his administration if the parents of the children do not educate themselves and that there are tons of them. Many gang members are parents. He replies that Dallas had a program for gang members where they got funds from the Department of Justice to send 900 gang members to class. MAYOR RILEY says he is in and wants to know more about outcomes and how can we get access to that kind of money. MIKE CERVANTES continues telling the mayor about Michael Bloomberg and how he told a radio audience that New York City could not get gang members to study because they came from dysfunctional families. MAYOR RILEY says then Bloomberg messed up and the rest of the country was following his lead. You got it MIKE CERVANTES replies. But what can do here, the mayor asks. They are walking away and the MIKE CERVANTES says this is the age of technology and we will hit them where they are. MIKE CERVANTES says we can set up a FACEBOOK for all schools and give them the latest and best help to transform communities.
MELISSA SANCHEZ is working on a new FACEBOOK page for one of the middle schools in the city. MIKE CERVANTES walks over to her and he says that looks great. MIKE CERVANTES says I have sent you an email that contains some of the contents that we need to transform those middle school kids before things get worse.
MIKE CERVANTES attends an Anti-Gun Violence Convention where there are NBA Ambassadors. CARMELO ANTHONY is speaking just as the teacher arrives. At the end of the speech, there is a lunch break and people begin to leave the auditorium.
MIKE CERVANTES meets LEBRON JAMES, who is a guest speaker at the convention. MIKE gives the NBA great his business card. LEBRON reads the card and puts it into his wallet. MIKE challenges LEBRON to a basketball contest and LEBRON accepts the challenge.
Can I tell you something else MIKE CERVANTES asks? LEBRON says it better not be another challenge. MIKE CERVANTES says you are one of my heroes for paying for the children’s parents in your program to take the GED in Akron.
The FACEBOOK page is ready. The page is being opened in homes in the community and people are joining in and liking the page. Someone is looking at the material posted called Things to Learn Today. There are several sentences that are listed with an error and the correct form that people are reading. The entire community is learning from the mistakes of the children at school, empowering the entire community.
In the office, JAMAL walks around telling everyone that the staff is going to have a meeting with the mayor. JAMAL tells MIKE CERVANTES that the phones have been ringing off the hook over the new FACEBOOK initiative.
A limousine arrives at City Hall, parks, and a man and his assistant get out of the limousine and walk up the steps to City Hall. Inside the receptionist calls the mayor and says he is here. Moments later the man enters the mayor’s office. MAYOR RILEY greets MARK ZUCKERBERG, the owner of FACEBOOK, asking him to sit down. Everyone is seated for this important meeting. The mayor is agitated and seems respectful, caring, and nervous. Some staff members enter and sit down as well. MAYOR RILEY tells MARK ZUCKERBERG that FACEBOOK is going to be a great solution for the educational system and there are positive indicators that communities will turn around. MAYOR RILEY shows the FACEBOOK page to the founder and owner of FACEBOOK. MAYOR RILEY says, even I now know that there are two commas when we write Peter, Paul, and Mary instead of just one. MARK ZUCKERBERG says “Wow and it’s a full tutorial that the entire community can access everyday helping children pass their state tests. This idea could wipe out illiteracy in the United States and around the world.” MAYOR RILEY asks JAMAL to speak. JAMAL says that the Arab Spring happened because of FACEBOOK, for good or for bad. MIKE CERVANTES has started the use of FACEBOOK to produce greater impact on school and community, parent and child. I came up with the idea that we need something national because scale is needed. We need a national debate of all important educational issues, but even more we need hundreds of local solutions from people to make things much better. MARK ZUCKERBERG tells everyone that he loves the idea and he will assign a team to this effort as soon as he returns to the office. As they walk outside the office, MELISSA SANCHEZ is standing there. MIKE CERVANTES winks at her and she smiles back. As Mark Zuckerberg walks away with his staff member, the mayor’s staff is giving each other high fives.
MIKE CERVANTES is on a basketball court with LEBRON JAMES and the challenge is about to begin. There is an assistant who puts blindfolds on both men. They are escorted to the foul line.
LEBRON JAMES shoots five times and hits one shot, the third shot falling in. MIKE CERVANTES hits the first shot. LEBRON JAMES asks what happens in case of a tie? MIKE CERVANTES replies that there will be no tie. Then MIKE misses three shots in a row. MIKE CERVANTES tells LEBRON that the last shot is his hot shot. He warms the ball with his hands. MIKE releases the ball, it bounces off the rim twice and falls in. The two men start walking out with the others.
MALIK is on a panel with LEBRON JAMES and others. They are talking about gangs and education as a way of prevention for gang growth and incarceration caused by criminal activity.
MIKE CERVANTES shows up at a Title One No Child Left Behind meeting and sees the poor turnout. He asks, how can you get good parent involvement when most meetings have poor attendance? He insists that the parent leaders reach out to absent parents through technology to increase parent participation.
MAYOR RILEY tells people I’m for public safety and I will never throw the police under the bus, but the Pipeline to Prison is not the third grade reading scores. Society has slowly chipped away at the great problem caused by the incarceration of men and women who most often return to society and cannot find a job because they do not have a high school diploma or its equivalency. MAYOR RILEY says he is going to start his own Pipeline to College program for all those who have never finished high school. MAYOR RILEY looks at MIKE CERVANTES and asks, “How‘s my idea?” MIKE CERVANTES reveals that in another month or so you can take over my job. The two men laugh as they walk away together, hugging each other as they go.
One of the gang leaders in the city is upset about the programs being set up by city hall. The reason is his domain is diminishing.
There is a speech in the school yard that is interrupted by gunfire. A teenager is shot and the MIKE CERVANTES runs over to help. MIKE gets shot and lays on the ground unconscious.
There are two ambulances racing through the streets with cars pulling over. Since the police have been immediately notified there are police on the scene and a reporter has arrived who is interviewing witnesses of this horrendous event.
In the hospital room, MIKE CERVANTES’ girlfriend is with him. Suddenly LEBRON JAMES walks into the room. MELISSA SANCHEZ says Miguel there is someone here to see you. MIKE CERVANTES opens his eyes and thanks LEBRON for coming. LEBRON tells him that he wants a rematch because he takes all competition seriously and that he is going to warm up the ball with his big hands to produce a victory. MIKE CERVANTES says he is ready, but we have to be victorious over the gangs. I want to start a GED project with the police to bring up minority recruitment in the department. LEBRON says count me in.
